The main part was carefully hand dug under the copse of trees late summer/full 2019 and planted with hostas from the front, coral bells, lenten rose, astillibe, spring bulbs and other shade plants.
The top section was dug and planted early spring 2020 and is in full sun.
List of Plants as of Oct 2021:
- Dawn Redwood Tree – can tolerate and likes wet roots. Placed at the bottom of the hill so that it gets lots of water and it has lots of clay. Doing wonderful. Planted when it was only about 2′ tall and it’s now over 6′. Needles turn an orange in the fall and then drops them and comes back in the spring.
- 3 Existing holly trees
- 4 Existing small leafy trees. Not sure what they are, but they are different varieties.
- 2 Blue Mouse Ears hostas
- Several coral bells – I don’t think these “made it”. I planted them at the bottom of the hill and it’s now overrun with lamb’s ear.
- Hostas – many different varieties of hostas. Large, varigated, solid green, and small.
- Lemon Thread False Cypress – at the top of the hill.
- Sea of Gold Juniper – at the top of the hill.
- Azalea – we purchased a few of these and they got too much sun and water. Only one survived. It has double blooms and is a light lavender bloom. Very pretty. Hoping it thrives.
- Dwarf mondo grass
- Louisiana Black Gamecock Iris
- Astilibe – pink, white, and red varieties.
- Hardy Garden Amaryllis – Alaska and Eye Catcher. They are red and white varieties.
- Hardy Orchid, Kate
- Lenten Rose – multiple varities
- Daffodils
- Crocus
