Last night I finally put up the shade for the tomatoes. I’m really hoping it works. When I got home it was overcast and a storm had blown through. The shade was right where I left it, but can’t tell if the tomatoes get enough shade.

Today was in the mid-80’s when I got home. I did a lot of trimming and dead heading. All of the tree lilies and Turk’s cap lilies got a trim. I weeded the Well Garden. Harvested green beans. Trimmed the spent gladiolus and iris. Trimmed lots in the Flag Garden.

We had the last of the green beans for dinner tonight. They were so good steamed. And Jim got the first home-grown tomato – a Clint Eastwood Rowdy Red. Got his seal of approval. Definitely need to put this on the list for next year. It’s an indeterminate and already has a lot of tomatoes. It’s doing exceptional in the grow bag. All of the grow bag vegetables are doing great – better than in the veggie bed. With the exception of the cucumbers. Can’t wait to see if the shade makes a difference.

The cucumbers have taken off. Lots of baby cucumbers. The container with cucumbers got knocked over in the storm – no damage.
