New Plants and Gardens

I’ve gotten a few things completed this weekend. I did 2 more trays of seeds, potted up all but 1 of the older trays, and went to Frank’s Produce & Greenhouses in Elkridge, MD.

I received my order from Stark Bro’s Nurseries & Orchard. I planted the American Redbud over at the side yard. The two grape vines (Nesbitt Muscadine & Somerset Seedless, both self-pollinating) are both planted on the far side of the vegetable garden on the outside of the fence. I’ll train them to grow along the fencing. I thought about potting them in grow bags until the Garage Garden was ready — but that may take longer than first expected.

We asked our neighbor Dave if he could dig up all of the stone where the Garage Garden will go. Well… there’s over 5 inches of rock with heavy plastic liner under it. He made a large pile (about 3′ tall) and that was a small amount of the overall rock. I have no idea what we’re going to do. If we remove all of the rock, we’ll need to refill it with topsoil. The place I used to get my topsoil has closed. We’ll probably have to go to the landfill and pick up a few truck loads. Fairly depressing. I was so excited when the rock started coming up, only to be left feeling like it’s way too big of a project. I’ve already measured and gotten a garden plan together.

I worked on the Raised Garden in the backyard. I cut down the 2 heather shrubs and I’m working on removing the roots. Not sure if that was the smartest idea. I put a new rose in its place. Or I can move the heather plant from the Flag Garden. Might do better. I’m not sure. I do know that the 2 I removed were too big and there were empty areas.
